About Us

IPE Niagara was founded in 2008, with funding provided by HealthForceOntario collectively totalling more than $1 million. The purpose of IPE Niagara is to create Interprofessional Education opportunities for Students at Niagara College. Over the course of the project, IPE Niagara has created and delivered one IPE course and is currently working on more courses. Several manuals for students and mentors have also been created to aide in student success and understanding.

Goals of IPE Niagara

To develop sustainable interdisciplinary education related to long term, chronic, rehabilitative and palliative care.

To provide a growing number of Health professionals with the attitudes, skills and knowledge to work collaboratively in patient care.

To contribute to improved patient and provider satisfaction through support and education and to ultimately improve patient outcomes in the Niagara Region.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Encourage patient-centred delivery of healthcare based on patient needs, wishes and desires.
  2. Enhance the student’s understanding of the roles of many health professions.
  3. Provide diverse learning opportunities that focus on finding evidence based solutions in a team-based environment.
  4. Develop a team-based and interdisciplinary approach to patient care within the Niagara Region.

Activities

IPE Niagara is currently involved in the following activities:

  • Building collaborative relationships with other organizations in the region, including McMaster University and Brock University. For more information about this partnership please click here.
  • Hosting Interprofessional Health Education Symposia For more information please click here.
  • Developing post-secondary courses, continuing education courses and workshops for a diverse range of health and non-health students and professionals. These courses will be delivered at Niagara College beginning in 2009/2010.

  • Researching links between educational, clinical and community partners to advance IPE activities.
